Protect South Memphis from more fossil fuels The Tennessee Valley Authority’s reckless plans to build another polluting methane gas plant in South Memphis puts the climate and nearby neighborhoods at risk. The Biden administration must protect South Memphis communities by putting a stop to this dangerous gas plant proposal and telling TVA to invest in safer clean energy solutions instead. TAKE ACTION Tell NC legislators to protect wetlands. The NC legislature ’s removal of wetlands protections w ill worsen the effects of floods, threatening lives and cost ing millions of dollars in damage and lost business. S peak up to s av e wetlands . TAKE ACTION Save the South’s disappearing wildlife The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act is an historic opportunity to invest in wildlife conservation efforts and prevent species from needing emergency protections or reaching their crisis point. Tell Congress to protect wildlife and save Southern species from slipping away. TAKE ACTION Protect old-growth forests It‘s essential that we protect old growth, as well as the mature forests and aging trees that are next in line to become old growth and are already providing immense carbon and biodiversity benefits. Sign the petition to protect old-growth forests. TAKE ACTION Keep Virginia Scenic Rolling ridges. Sparkling streams. More than 150 miles of trails. Creating Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area would permanently protect this breathtaking landscape in the George Washington National Forest so that it can be enjoyed for generations to come. TAKE ACTION Speak Out for Environmental Justice Urge your elected officials to support the Environmental Justice for all Act, the most far-reaching Congressional bill yet to address the outsize burdens low-wealth and communities of color face when it comes to pollution and other environmental harms. Take Action Cut Carbon Not Forests We are at a critical moment in the fight against climate change, but cutting our forests and burning them for energy just doesn’t make sense. Take Action See how SELC is part of the solution. Our Impact The mission of the Southern Environmental Law Center is to protect the basic right to clean air, clean water, and a livable climate; to preserve our region’s natural treasures and rich biodiversity; and to provide a healthy environment for all.
